Information about the recent City of Apopka Residential Backflow letter
Last edited 3-4-2022
The City of Apopka has recently sent out letters requesting compliance of residential customers with testable backflow devices.
We have responded to 13 such requests and we have discovered that 70% of the valves are failing the test and require repairs or replacement.
Our backflow test including repairs for new customers is priced at $125, but your device will also need to be tested at least every two years according to the the City of Apopka (Tests for our existing customers are currently set at $45).
The City of Apopka says in their letter that a Dual Check is an approved alternative to a testable device. Dual Checks do not need to be tested. Our price to install this device is $295.
Alternatively the City of Apopka may test or replace your device and charge via the water bill:
The letter says: “If we do not receive a test within 14 days after the due date, the City of Apopka or its designee will perform the needed maintenance up and including converting to the new “Dual Check" device. The cost will be applied to your water bill.”
Our understanding is that the City of Apopka will try and test the device first. If the device passes the test the charge is $60. If the device fails the test, then the device will be replaced for $300, and the charge will be spread over three billing cycles on your water bill.
We are in the process of getting more details from the City’s Cross Connection Control department, and we will update this page as we find out more information.
